Recent Rescue Operation

Minimize

PAWS Atlanta rescued 38 (out of almost 100) dogs and newborn puppies from a hoarding, illegal breeding and foreclosure situation in a rural area over Labor Day weekend.  All of the dogs need vaccinations, including the basics like Rabies and Parvo, spaying or neutering, microchipping, medication, grooming and care.  We are grateful for all financial donations (consider donating to the Spay/Neuter Fund or visiting our general donations page) and need qualified foster homesClick here to read about some of the rescued pups.

UPDATE:  Thank you to everyone who has inquired about these pups!  For the health and well-being of these dogs and potential adopters' families and pets, we are medically evaluating each pup, providing medication as needed, spaying or neutering, microchipping and providing nutritional support for each pet.  Each dog will be in quarantine and treatment for a minimum of three weeks.  We will be holding a special adoption weekend on October 2nd and 3rd at the shelter.  We pledge to provide updated information about the dogs' progress and availability for foster/adoption on our website.

Founded in 1966 as the Dekalb Humane Society, PAWS Atlanta provides medical care, shelter, nutrition, basic training and love to homeless cats and dogs until their permanent, safe homes are found.  We do not euthanize because of space constraints.

It is our mission to promote responsible pet care, reduce pet overpopulation by spaying and neutering and enhance the human-pet bond.  In 2002, we changed our name to PAWS Atlanta.  We receive no money from national, state or local governments and we rely solely on individual donations, grants and corporate partnerships to fulfill our mission.  PAWS Atlanta is not affiliated with any other shelters in Georgia or nationally, though we regularly partner with other rescues and animal welfare organizations to help animals who are in need of our services.

Since our inception, PAWS Atlanta has cared for and adopted out more than 30,000 cats and dogs.  We frequently rescue cats and dogs from euthanasia in high kill sheltersWhen you support PAWS Atlanta by donating, adopting or volunteering, you are helping to give a second chance to these deserving companion animals.

Low-Cost Vaccination Clinic

Minimize

Our next Low-Cost Vaccination Clinic will be held on Sunday, September 19th from 1-3 PM at the shelter.  First come, first served.  When you purchase a Distemper vaccine (DHLPP), your pet will receive a Rabies vaccine for free!  That's a savings of $15.  No checks or bills over $20, please.

Help Me Heal Fund

Minimize

Thank you to the Help Me Heal Fund donors who contributed to Bear's surgery fund!  Bear, a Great Pyrenees who came to PAWS Atlanta last year, was treated for ear infections, heartworms and malnutrition. Because his ear infections went untreated by his previous owners, he required major surgery on one ear.  We are happy to say that Bear has been adopted into his loving, forever home!  Read his story on Bear's Blog.  We have many more animals who rely on the Help Me Heal Fund to recover and find their forever homes, so please consider making a donation!

PAWS Atlanta is proud to be the beneficiary of the Hill's Pet Nutrition Science Diet's Shelter Feeding Program.  We are feeding our shelter dogs and cats exclusively Science Diet food.  Each adopted animal will come home with a free trial sized bag of Science Diet food, which we recommend for continuity.  For more information, please visit Hill's Pet Nutrition.
