Rosetta Bone Canine Coaching

Week One
  1. Dogs will not be brought to the first class. This class is for registration, orientation and to demonstrate the first set of obedience cues and hand out a homework sheet to practice during the first week. Dogs will then be brought to the second class where we will put into practice the exercises from the previous week.
  2. We will discuss required equipment and safety.
  3. We will inform clients of the obedience cues that will be covered during the course as well as any problem behaviors that may need to be addressed.
  4. We will talk about the training technique that will be used during the course and the reasons for using such a technique versus other types of techniques.
  5. We will hand out homework sheets and recommend a few exercises.
  6. We will ask about any reactive dogs or bite histories and ask those clients to stay and talk with me after class.
  7. Homework for Week One:
    1. Practice Food Luring
    2. Practice Focus with Treats
    3. Practice Release with Treats
    4. Reward all Good Behaviors and Ignore Unwanted Behaviors
    5. Bring Training Equipment Next Week
 Week Two
  1. Check equipment
  2. Explain the importance of desensitizing their dogs to being touched by strangers.
  3. Review Class One Homework
  4. Introduction to Food Lure into Heel Position
  5. Introduction to Sit Cue
  6. Introduction to Running Recall Game
  7. Discuss Informal Down
  8. Introduce Loose - Leash Walking/Let’s Go Cue
  9. Problem-Solving Q&A
  10. Hand out Week Two Homework sheets
    1. Practice Sit, Focus, and Release Cues every time they take their dog through the front door, back door, or gate to fence.
    2. Reward with treats and praise any time they “catch him” lying down.
    3. Place dog in their assigned location in the living room and lure him into Down position
    4. Practice Loose-Leash Walking
Week Three
  1. Review Class Two Homework and ask if there are any questions.
  2. Introduce Heel Cue
  3. Introduce Down Cue
  4. Practice Recall Cue
  5. Introduce Sit-Stay
  6. Practice Loose-Leash Walking/Let’s Go
  7. Problem-Solving Q&A
  8. Homework for Week Three
    1. Practice Heel Cue with Focus
    2. Practice Recall Cue with some distractions
    3. Practice Down, Sit, Sit-Stay, and Loose-Leash Walking/Let’s Go
Week Four
  1. Review Class Three Homework
  2. Add Distractions on all known cues:
    1. Clapping hands
    2. Whistling
    3. Allow friendly dogs to work a little closer
  3. Discuss changing only one variable at a time (distance, distractions, length of stay)
  4. Introduce Sit-Stay
  5. Problem-Solving Q&A
  6. Homework for Week Four
    1. Practice all known cues: Focus, Release, Come, Down, Sit-Stay, and Loose-Leash Walking/Let’s Go
    2. Begin practicing with some distractions
    3. Begin changing variables, one at a time
Week Five
  1. Review Class Four Homework
  2. Introduce Heel with Auto-Sit
  3. Introduce Down-Stay
  4. Practice Loose-Leash Walking/Let’s Go
  5. Problem-Solving Review
  6. Handout Week Five Homework
    1. Practice all known cues
    2. Practice Sit-Stays and Down-Stays increasing distance and distractions, but only one at a time
    3. Practice Come from increasing distance
    4. Practice Loos-Leash Walking with Auto Sit
Week Six
  1. Practice known cues with distractions
  2. Discuss Safe Socialization
  3. Meet-and-Greet with Distance
  4. Observe and Discuss Dogs’ Body Language
  5. Practice Cues and Re-group
  6. Problem-Solving Review
  7. Hand out Week Six Homework
    1. Continue practicing all known cues with variables (distance, distractions, length of stay)
    2. Practice proper socialization techniques
Week Seven
  1. GRADUATION!!!
  2. Review all cues and focus on individual priority needs
  3. Diplomas
