Mikey G
Many animals arrive at PAWS Atlanta with unaddressed health issues, some due to neglect and abuse. Our goal in healing cats and dogs in need is to provide them with the best and most comprehensive care possible. However, the surgeries and medication required is often expensive, so we rely on generous supporters like you to lend a hand.
We didn't know Mikey G had a broken heart when he arrived at PAWS Atlanta. He looked and acted like a sweet, healthy puppy. Then, our vet heard something startling: a severe heart murmur. Typically, the life expectancy of a puppy with a Grade V heart murmur is about 1-2 years.
We reached out to Blue Pearl Pet Hospital, and their cardiologist diagnosed Mikey with severe pulmonic stenosis, a congenital narrowing of the opening of the pulmonary artery that carries blood from his heart to his lungs. However, cardiologists at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine have agreed to evaluate Mikey G for a minimally-invasive catheterization procedure designed to open up the blood flow blockage and help him live a better, longer life.
If they decide he is a candidate, they'll keep him and perform the procedure on that visit. Right now, Mikey G is thriving in a foster home, and we are excited to have found a way forward. But, because this is a complex procedure that requires a highly trained team and expensive equipment custom-fitted for Mikey, we have been told the surgery bill could be somewhere around $7,000.

The donations we raise will go into our general medical emergency fund, so any funds raised beyond what we need for Mikey will be used for other dogs or cats who need emergency care or essential surgeries.
