True Love
Savannah was adopted seven years ago from PAWS Atlanta! When we put out a call for Stories of Love, Robb reached out immediately. The love between each person and their pet is always special, but Robb and Savannah are clearly celebrating true love!
1. Why did you decide to adopt Savannah?
When I met my wife, she had an adult MinPin (miniature pincher) she adopted years prior. He was, and remains, quite attached to her, but I wanted a dog that would be "my" dog. I didn't set out to adopt another MinPin, or even a dog at all, really. However, someone I follow on Twitter shared PAWS Atlanta's post about Savannah, and I knew she had to come home with me! She came home the next day.
- How is Savannah doing now?
She is absurdly spoiled and happy. She has drawers full of clothes and a toybox that we replenish as needed to keep her entertained, even though she has her two favorites. She has been extremely healthy, with no major issues beyond the occasional earache and allergies. She even still has all her very white teeth, and hasn't even had a cavity!
3.What was her personality like when you first adopted her, and what is she like now? How has she changed during her time with you?
She was extremely apprehensive when she came home, to the point we had to eat with her in a small closet. However, she quickly came out of her shell and became a hyperactive little tornado. This is where she still is today at almost eight. Her two settings are at a zero, asleep under a ton of blankets, or, at an 11, zooming around the house or dog park.
- Do you have any other pets? What is Savannah's relationship like with them? With you?
She has two MinPin siblings: her older brother, Bruiser, is 15, and, her sister, Violet is 12. Violet was adopted with serious health issues and comes from a history of abuse, so she needs a lot of extra care.
Her relationship with them can be described as... complicated indifference. She usually leaves them alone, much preferring to either keep to herself or be around people. When my wife and I settle down to watch TV, Savannah joins the family, and when we leave she usually shares a bed with her siblings. Savannah is very protective of things she has decided are hers, including toys, blankets, and even humans (especially me!).
5.What activities does she enjoy?
She loves walks (either on her own feet or in the stroller), car rides (she has her own car seat), and trips to stores she's allowed into (Lowe's is her favorite). When the weather is nicer, we enjoy long hikes around the various parks in North Fulton. She has also done agility and dock jumping classes.
6. How does Savannah show that she loves you?
Her affection is intense. She loves to paw at your legs to be lifted to your face and held like a baby. When you're sitting or lying down, she lays down on your chest and aggressively rubs her face against your face. She also loves to look up at you longingly with her long tail wagging rapidly, whapping into various things with reckless abandon.
7. What do you love most about your pet?
This is an impossible question! I love how excited she gets for everything and anything. I love how soft and shiny her coat is. I love her big brown eyes and how expressive they are. I love how her ears go up and down and twist and express a whole range of personality. I love how she has zoomies every night at the same time. I love how she is both the best and worst behaved dog I've ever met. I love how excited she gets for clothes, and how, when you put them on, she lifts her little legs into the holes and gets herself dressed. I love how much she loves to be picked up and carried. I love how much she loves to ride in the cart at stores and in the stroller around town.
I love every single hair on her body and thing she does.
