Foster for the win

On January 30, Fleur, her five siblings, and mom Adele traveled to PAWS Atlanta in the back of a volunteer's car from a local animal control. Our vet team immediately performed tests and exams, assessing their needs. When the parvo tests came out postitive, the volunteer driver and staff took swift action giving baths and following the necessary protocols to limit exposure and give these dogs the best fighting chance. Fleur and her family spent two weeks in isolation with dedicated care from our medical team so they could beat the odds and recover from the often deadly virus.

Heidi, one of our longterm volunteers and supporters, had recently lost her dear senior lab Berry and was still feeling the empty space he left in her heart and home. When she heard our urgent call for fosters, she decided she could help, joining many other fosters who provided safe haven to over 100 animals in weeks alone. After hearing what Fleur had been through, she and her husband Adam scooped her up without hesitation so she could experience love, attention, and the comforts of a home during her early formative months. Fleur and their resident dog, Marlo hit it off and it didn't take long (one week to be exact) for her little body, big smile, and goofy personality to wiggle into their hearts for good. With a spunky new name (Delta) and family to call her own, she defied all of the odds stacked against her.

But this hasn't been the first time Heidi has stepped up. She has volunteered for Summer Lovin' (our short term foster program), our foster program, countless adoption events and our signature event, Party for the PAWS.

Oh yeah - and about her dog Marlo. Two years ago, Heidi was volunteering when a teeny lab mix named Beetle was abandoned at PAWS Atlanta. She decided to let him stay at her place for a while until he was old enough to be neutered and the time came to find his permanent family. Well - Fleur wasn't the first "foster fail" of the family. Beetle got a new name (Marlo) and a big brother named Berry to show him the ropes. Now, it's his turn to teach a new pup how grand life can be.
