Senior Dogs Have More Life to Live, More Love to Give

Grey Muzzle Gives over $8K for Senior Dogs

Our senior pups and cats at PAWS Atlanta are special, and we are honored to be able to care for them each year. They brighten our days and make us appreciate life and the importance of living it to the fullest. We also know that every senior animal who comes to our shelter deserves to live out their lives with dignity and love. That’s why, once again, we’re so grateful to The Grey Muzzle Organization for standing with us in our efforts by awarding us another lifesaving grant to provide medical care for our senior dogs. Grey Muzzle knows that senior dogs have “more life to live, more love to give.”

Last year, thanks to the generosity of The Grey Muzzle Organization, we provided 37 senior dogs with medical and preventative care which included vaccines, heartworm treatments spay/neuter procedures, microchips, and monthly prevention. These funds also helped us conduct urinalyses, thyroid tests, basic blood screening, ACTH stimulation/cortisol, and other necessary tests.

It made all the difference in the world for pups like Tucker Dean who is now spoiled daily in his home. This little guy was abandoned at the PAWS Atlanta gate one evening. When our team arrived to bring him into the clinic, though, he was nowhere to be found. He was spotted on our security cameras when he was dropped off, so we knew he had to be somewhere. It turns out, he was so frightened that he fled from his rescuers and was hiding. It took time, treats, and coaxing, but our team finally managed to catch him.

Tucker Dean took his time opening up. Understandably, he was not quite ready to trust again. After being left to fend for himself, he needed space to recover. He took some time to accept the love of his caregivers, but it wasn’t long before he revealed his sweet self. He was even able to strut his stuff down the Party for the PAWS doggie runway last fall!

One of our incredible volunteers took him into her home to foster him and give him a comfortable space to decompress. She helped build up his confidence and brought him to PAWS Atlanta so that our medical team could give him the care he needed. With the generous support of The Grey Muzzle Organization during the grant year, Tucker Dean received his vaccines, a microchip, was neutered, and received his heartworm/flea/tick prevention each month while at the shelter. He found the best family thanks to this amazing volunteer and the kindness of The Grey Muzzle Organization.

Thank you, Grey Muzzle, for leading the way to save and improve the lives of senior dogs nationwide and being there for our senior pups! We look forward to making a difference together again this year.
