Ruth Bader Catsburg goes from foster to family.
Ruth Bader Catsburg, named for the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, came to PAWS Atlanta with her five kittens. They were left in our parking lot late at night, and we knew they would need a foster home quickly. Thankfully, Kari stepped up. Little did she know, she would find even more than a foster cat, she would find her new best friend.
Why did you decide to adopt Ruth?
I’ve been a foster for PAWS Atlanta for a while, and when I saw the social media post about a mother cat and her five kittens who were dropped off in the middle of the night, I reached out and offered to take them in. The mother cat was extremely sweet and a great mom. Her original name was Bisquick, and the kittens were all named after breakfast foods. When the kittens were about three-months-old, they were ready to be adopted, and all found loving homes within a matter of days. I hoped Bisquick would also get a home, but two weeks later she hadn’t been adopted and had come down with a respiratory infection. I couldn’t stand the thought of her feeling sick and being in quarantine when I knew I had room for her in my home and my heart. So, I told PAWS Atlanta I wanted to adopt her and I brought her home as soon as she was well enough.
How is Ruth doing now?
Ruth is doing great. She’s extremely sweet, friendly, playful and curious. She tolerates my grouchy 10-year old-cat (Mia) really well and has been so patient and diplomatic as Mia adjusted to having another cat in the house. Perhaps RBC takes after her namesake!
How is Ruth's relationship Mia?
Mia had been an only cat for a year when Ruth joined our family, and she was initially not pleased to have a new sister. It’s taken the past year for Mia to calm down enough that the two cats can freely roam the house together. Ruth has taken it all in stride, remaining diplomatic and calm. Mia still chases Ruth at least once a day, but Ruth always has a strategy and can out-run and out jump Mia.
What kind of activities does Ruth enjoy?
Ruth loves to watch live streaming safaris from South Africa with me. She’s particularly fond of the “big kitties” and the birds. She’s also my telework assistant and spends a lot of time on my desk “helping." Ruth is still young, so she’s active and playful. She enjoys climbing the nine-foot cat tower, watching chipmunks in the yard, and chasing her toy mice.
How does your pet show their love?
Ruth likes to put her face close to mine and touch me with her whiskers. Then she gently sniffs my face. She’s done this since we first met. It never fails that her whiskers tickle me and make me laugh.
What do you love most about your pet?
I really enjoy how playful and smart Ruth is. She’s constantly entertaining!
