Surrounded by love

Eudora, lovingly known as Dora Grace, was diagnosed with cancer last October. Raina, one of our veteran foster moms, took her in without hesitation.

Dora was a very special cat. It’s hard to explain but there was just something different about her. She had the most adorable owl-like face and she was always gentle and happy. Before her recent decline she loved showing her playful side, running around Raina’s house or snuggling in bed. Her favorite place to be was on Raina’s chest and her preferred food was Fancy Feast. She perked up every morning when it was time for breakfast.

Dora’s health rapidly declined last month and Raina and the team decided it was time to let her go.

Raina brought Dora home because she knew she could provide comfort and love during the final months of her life. As painful as it was to lose her, Raina told us she has peace of mind knowing Dora was cherished and surrounded by so much love in the end. And in turn, the experience of loving Dora through her final months changed Raina, reiterating that life is fragile, time is precious, and you must always love fiercely.

Fostering is such a fulfilling experience. Raina is the mom to a 4-year-old blind calico kitty named CeCe and she's also fostered four dogs for PAWS Atlanta. She told us it’s hard not to get attached, but it feels good knowing you can provide a comfortable home for these animals outside of the shelter. Fostering gives them a sense of normalcy and allows them to socialize with other humans and animals.

Our foster network is crucial for at-risk animals. If you’re able to provide a comfortable home to a dog or cat in need, send your completed application to our Foster Program Coordinator, Ellee Gonzales.
