An Absolute Snack

Snacks Finds his Forever Home

Snacks (previously Ozzy) has always been a favorite around PAWS Atlanta, but he waited a while for his forever family to find him. He's a little bit advanced in age and a little bit pudgy, and many adopters headed for younger cats instead. Snacks' new family, though, fell in love with him right away. It's safe to say it was worth the wait! Here's what his people had to say about their new life with Snacks:

Why did you decide to adopt Snacks?

My husband, Dave, and I adopted Snacks about six months after we lost our beloved cat, Waffles, at 14. We always knew our next pet would come from PAWS Atlanta - we’ve volunteered there a few times, and think PAWS does incredible work. Also, a few of my coworkers surprised me by donating to PAWS Atlanta in memory of Waffles after her passing, which really touched my heart. We needed some time to grieve after losing her, and even when we were ready, it was important to us that our next cat not be too much like her in demeanor or appearance. We definitely accomplished that! Waffles was a quiet, aloof, tiny tortoise-shell. Snacks is vocal, friendly to everyone, and a very round tuxedo cat.

How is Snacks doing now?

Snacks settled at home with us very quickly, and he’s doing wonderfully. He’s so silly and has a big personality - he is waiting at the door for us when we come home from work to demand attention, and he wants to be wherever we are. He comes when you call him and follows us around the house more than our dog does.

How is Snacks' relationship with your dog?

Zaxby, our 9-year-old lab-pit bull mix, is almost exactly the same age as Snacks. Our last cat did not appreciate Zaxby’s abundant energy, but he and Snacks get along pretty well and will often sit right up against each other. We’re still hoping they’ll cuddle one of these days!

What kind of activities does Snacks enjoy?

Snacks really enjoys making biscuits, meowing at nothing on our patio on sunny days, and playing with his laser. He is on a fitness journey! He weighs 17 pounds, and though he is absolutely perfect as he is, we want him to be with us as long as possible, which means getting him down to a healthier weight. So far he is down a pound and a half.

How does Snacks show you his love?

Snacks sticks to us like Velcro. If we’re watching Netflix on the couch, he’s parked right between us. He’s a backup alarm clock, not so patiently waiting for pets (and food) at the crack of dawn. If I’m trying to take a bubble bath, we have to keep him from diving straight into the tub. His love for us is never in doubt!

What do you love most about Snacks?

Snacks is always in a good mood and ready to put you in a good mood too. He also absolutely rocks a bow tie (which goes great with his permanent tuxedo).

Anything else you'd like to share about him?

Snacks definitely picked us. After losing Waffles, I told PAWS Atlanta staff that, while our next cat didn’t need to be a kitten, we wanted a younger cat so we could avoid another painful loss for as long as possible. However, Snacks was standing at the door of the Cat Cottage to greet us, more than ready to find his new family. I don’t think he would have let us leave without him!
