Sun and Domino share a similar background and a special bond. They were both found living outside as strays and came into our care back in 2017. Sun had a litter of kittens under a porch and her kittens were adopted immediately. Domino was found by a kind woman who could not keep her. They were extremely afraid of humans and became friends with each other at PAWS Atlanta.
Fast forward to March of 2020 when we posted an emergency plea for fosters before the shelter-in-place order. Chele and her husband Kevin stepped up to take in whoever needed help the most and away they went! This foster duo understood it would take time for Sun and Domino to open up. They were patient and kind and gave the girls all the time and space they needed.
Over the months, Sun and Domino made real progress. In the beginning, they were afraid to be in the same room with Chele and Kevin. As time went by, they began basking in the sunshine, playing freely with their toys, and taking treats from Kevin and Chele's hands. Eventually Sun sat right next to Kevin and Domino requested pets and rolled over for belly scratches in her kitty bed. Sun and Domino also got along great with Chele and Kevin’s own cat, romping together in the house!
Through kindness and patience, Chele and Kevin taught Sun and Domino that humans can be good. That you can learn to trust and don't have to spend your days alone and afraid. When asked why she decided to foster Sun and Domino, Chele states,“My husband and I find it so rewarding to help the cats push through fear and replace it with trust. It’s wonderful to watch them sleeping peacefully in the sunshine, or playing without reservation, and of course circling around our feet at meal time! Our favorite moments were when Domino tirelessly chased the red laser light, and Sun relaxed on her back swatting at the fuzzy worm on a string! They’re just precious kitties.”
Sun and Domino made so much progress that Chele knew it was time for them to take the next step - to be adopted and grow and learn to love with their new forever family. Now, they’re with our friends at Java Cats Café. Chele volunteers three times a week to say hello to Sun and Domino and introduce them to visiting families.
Chele told us fostering Sun and Domino was effortless and brought her and Kevin so much joy, making them giggle all the time! And what a gift Chele and Kevin gave Sun and Domino - the time and space needed to prepare them for their next step - into your heart and home forever. Be sure to visit Java Cats Café and meet these two beautiful kitties!
In addition to Sun and Domino, Chele and Kevin have fostered other PAWS Atlanta kitties, too. Chele told us recently, “We’re often asked how we keep ourselves from adopting all the cats we foster. But we don’t see that as our role. If we adopted them all, we could not help so many. Rather, we’re a stepping stone on their journey to finding their forever family. And it’s such a privilege to be a part of their journey.”
