Smiling Ear to Ear

Life is good for Bubs

When Bubs (previously Thunder) arrived at PAWS Atlanta, he was skinny and scared. Pictured on the right with our team member, Harriet, he's always been full of love, even when things were rough for him. Bubs was initially surrendered by his previous owner in 2018, and he had a lot of medical challenges. He was adopted in 2019, but was then returned. Soon after, Bubs went into a foster home - with Sam who is now our Volunteer and Database Coordinator. We knew that Bubs needed some extra love, and Sam provided that for him. Clearly we've all had a soft spot for Bubs since the beginning, and seeing him happy brings us so much joy. We caught up with Bubs' dad, and he told us all about Bubs' new life.

Why did you decide to adopt Bubs?

I had been planning on adopting another dog for a couple of years prior to welcoming Bubs into our crew. I adopted my first pup, Mia, nine years ago and always wanted to adopt another when I had the space to make a great and welcoming home. I was fortunate to move into my first home at the end of 2020, and it was the perfect time to grow our pack.

How is Bubs doing now?

Bubs is doing great! It definitely took some time for him to settle in and understand that he has a forever home and family. He's such a curious and expressive little guy. It's been a treat to learn all his quirks and watch him get more and more comfortable with his surroundings.

Do you have any other pets? How is Bubs' relationship with them?

My first dog, Mia, has been my sidekick for the past nine years. She and Bubs immediately became a crew from their first meet-and-greet. They fell for each other instantly and are pretty much inseparable now. Bubs has been a great burst of youthful energy for Mia, and Mia has been a source of assurance and steadiness for Bubs.

What kind of activities does Bubs enjoy?

Bubs just enjoys life. He's been pretty thrilled about all the hikes we've been doing (Mia's favorite activity) and daily walks around the neighborhood. He loves sunbathing in the backyard. He is very fond of chasing tennis balls and has recently taken a liking to chewing up sticks with Mia. He is definitely a little ball of energy, but equally enjoys curling up on the couch next to me or Mia and snoozin' for a while.

How does Bubs show his love?

Bubs is a very expressive dog and has lots of love to share. He's usually rocking a pretty big smile on his face and using his ears to show his level of appreciation (the higher they are, the happier he is). He loves to give hugs, especially if you're sitting down, he tries to wiggle his way into your lap. And when he can't contain his love and excitement, he resorts to twirling in circles at a rapid pace.

What do you love most about Bubs?

I love how much Bubs tells you how he's feeling. He has such a caring, curious, and loving personality - I really appreciate how openly he communicates all of that. I love watching him and Mia act as if they've been attached since birth. He has not only brought me immense joy, but it's also easy to see how happy Mia is to have a best friend.
