Filling the Void

Cutie Finds a Perfect Home

Cutie, previously Hana, was surrendered by her owner at only a year and a half old. When she arrived at the shelter, she was shy and reserved, and we worried that her introverted personality would cause potential adopters to overlook her for more outgoing cats. However, her sweet, gentle spirit was just what Jenny and her family were looking for. Here's what Jenny had to say about Cutie's adoption and new life:

Why did you decide to adopt Cutie?

We had our previous cat, Clyde, for 18 years, and we said goodbye to him a few years ago. Our son loved him so much and has since been asking for another cat. After the birth of our twins followed by a move to a new house, we decided it was time to adopt another cat. We thought we wanted an older cat because we loved Clyde so much. We wanted a cat who would do well with dogs and kids and who would be snuggly and gentle. When we came to PAWS Atlanta, we initially didn't think we would adopt that day because we didn't see any specific cats who caught our interest online. However, when we walked into the room Cutie was in, she came right up to my son, rubbed his legs, and wanted to play. Cutie picked us - we immediately fell in love with her and knew she would be a great addition. She is much younger than we expected our new cat to be, but her energy level is perfect for the kids. It's so nice to have a sweet cat again. While we still miss Clyde, Cutie fills the void in our hearts.

How is Cutie doing now?

Cutie is doing wonderfully! At first she was a bit scared, and it took her a few days before she would come out of hiding. She primarily stays upstairs, as she's not a fan of one of the dogs, and they're usually downstairs. She and the dogs are still adjusting to each other. One is afraid of her and Cutie is wary of the other. Their dynamic is actually a bit comical. During the day, she explores all the different rooms and follows me around. She's currently at my feet while I type this. I work from home, so she spends a significant time in the office with me. She has relaxed with time and fits right in. She plays, sleeps, eats, and then plays some more.

What kind of activities does Cutie enjoy?

She loves swatting at things! Her favorite game is playing with a toy on a stick. She loves chasing your feet, eating, playing, and getting rubs from us.

How does Cutie show her love?

Cutie is very playful and shows her love by chasing your feet and swatting at your legs as you go by. She's also a sweetheart and will show affection by rubbing against your legs, laying on her back, and showing her belly for belly rubs

What do you love most about Cutie?

I love how gentle she is. I was worried that a cat with claws would be scary for the kids, as our previous cat was declawed before we rescued her. However, the kids aren't bothered at all and think it is so funny when she chases their feet around. I also love how much Cutie loves my older son in particular. He is her person. He is only six-years-old, and they are inseparable. Cutie has filled a void we didn't realize we had. After Clyde passed, we thought we would never find a cat we would love as much. We had come to the conclusion that we just wouldn't get another cat, but then we decided to take a chance. It was well worth it. Everyone loves her...even the dogs.
