Wills and Trusts

Making a Bequest is Simple

One of the most popular ways to make a legacy is through including PAWS Atlanta in your will or living trust. Learn more about how to get started by watching our YouTube Playlist about estate planning with lawyer Shannon Pawley.

This type of gift offers the following advantages:

  1. Easy. Making a bequest is as simple as inserting a few sentences into your will. The official bequest language for PAWS Atlanta to share with your attorney is: “I, [name], of [city, state ZIP], give, devise and bequeath to PAWS Atlanta, Inc. [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its use and purpose.”
  2. Flexible. Wills are not written in stone and can be changed at any time. With a bequest, you are not actually making a gift until your death. Until then, you are free to alter your plans, eliminating the worry that you might make a commitment you could later regret.
  3. Tax-wise. Aside from the pure joy achieved by leaving meaningful gifts to animals, making a bequest to a charitable organization has valuable tax benefits. Your estate is entitled to an unlimited estate tax charitable deduction for bequests to qualified charitable organizations.

We hope you'll consider including a gift to PAWS Atlanta in your will or living trust. Please contact our Controller, Darren Huennekens, to learn more about arranging a gift that makes a lasting impact for homeless animals while meeting your personal financial goals.
