In the winter of 2022, Freckles was abandoned at our gate not once, but twice. His previous owner left him late one night and came back a few days later to reclaim him. We returned him to his owner, as we're required to do by law, and he was so happy to see his mama. We let her know that, if she needed to surrender him again, to let us know and we could assist. A few weeks later, he was left in the parking lot overnight again. Our team saw him on our security camera and arrived quickly. Freckles, more confused than ever, elluded our team for hours. He was scared and unsure, but we were finally able to catch him and bring him to safety.
Understandably, Freckles was a little down and depressed for a while but he eventually became a happy-go-lucky boy. He loved playing and meeting new people but continued to sit at the shelter, waiting for a new home. After two years, Freckles finally got a short-term break from shelter life. He went to a foster home where he could finally relax a bit. He'd been losing weight in the shelter due to stress, and he quickly bulked back up in foster, adorably chunky when he returned to the shelter a few months later.
For several more months, Freckles still sat waiting, wondering when he might find another home. After two years and six months in the shelter, someone came to meet him! They had another dog and, though Freckles is selective about making dog friends, these two pups hit it off. The rest is history! Freckles was finally adopted.
His mom reached out to us recently to let us know that Freckles has settled into his new life wonderfully. She said, "He is loving his city life and has shocked us all by making dog friends! He is still the biggest couch potato but is obsessed with his toys and his favorite game is 'chase.' [He has] the biggest personality and [is] the best boy!" We're so grateful that Freckles got a second chance, and so is he!
