Gumbo the Great
Gumbo came to PAWS Atlanta after being trapped as a stray in the community. He's a big boy and he wasn't yet neutered, so we were worried he might be a bit testy. Unneutered male cats can sometimes be more territorial or aggressive, especially if they're community cats. However, Gumbo immediately bucked that stereotype. He was ready to give our staff friendly head butts and asked for belly rubs immediately. He's everyone's best friend from the second he says hello!
Once Gumbo was neutered and vaccinated, he journeyed to Java Cats Café to meet potential adopters. A few days later, the Schlader family visited Java Cats Café. While meeting the cats, they were immediately drawn to a silly, friendly orange tabby wearing a lion's mane. They spent the next evening trying to talk themselves out of it, but ultimately knew they couldn't resist adopting Gumbo.
He settled in wonderfully with his new cat siblings and dog brother. Gumbo blossomed even more as he got comfortable in his forever home. However, a couple of months later, Gumbo starting losing fur and dropping pounds. His family grew really concerned. Gumbo is a guy who likes to eat, and this change was highly unlike him.
After quite a few tests and vet visits, Gumbo was finally diagnosed. Although treatment was expensive, his family crowdfunded the finances for his treatment. Now, Gumbo is on his way to being a happy, healthy boy again! The love his new family shows for him in this process is so heartwarming. They know that this alley cat turned snuggle bug deserves the world, and we agree. Go Gumbo, go!
