Jenny arrived at PAWS Atlanta in July of 2020 from a local animal control. We don't know what Jenny's life was like before, but while at PAWS Atlanta, she showed some fear-based reactivity on walks. Likely, the stress of multiple shelters began to take a toll. So, when she went into a foster home, our staff was grateful and hopeful that she would gain more confidence in a more relaxed environment. Little did we know, she had actually found an adoptive home!

Her foster parents invested a lot of time and effort into caring for Jenny. They helped her feel more secure on walks and worked on simple commands to increase her confidence. The more time they spent with Jenny, the more attached they became. After a few months of fostering Jenny, they decided to make things permanent! Jenny was adopted by her foster family in the fall of 2022. Her family recently sent an update about how well she's doing! Here's what they had to say:

"Since we adopted Jenny, she continues to be a wonderful dog. At home, she sunbathes on the porch, feuds with the backyard squirrels, enjoys occasional afternoon zoomies, takes up too much room on the sofa, and likes to sleep in. She isn't clingy or possessive, minds her manners, and doesn't destroy things in the house. The perfect pup!

We recently started working with an amazing dog trainer who is helping her learn to walk politely. On leash, Jenny used to pull a lot and react strongly to other dogs (and sometimes at buses, trucks, or people). There were periods of time when we gave up on walking Jenny because it was so stressful and embarrassing. After just a few training sessions, though, we walk together almost every day. It's now something we look forward to. We're not sure if Jenny will ever be friends with other dogs, but we're glad she is learning to be a good dog in the wider world, not just in the house and yard.

We are so grateful to PAWS Atlanta for introducing us to Jenny. She wasn't the dog we expected to have, but we are so happy with how things turned out. She's worth it!"
