Lydia's Story
Lydia recently celebrated her 8th birthday, and she did it in her forever home. She waited over a year for her people, but now they can't imagine life without her.
Lydia was left behind at the shelter gate, so we don't know what life was like for her before she came to PAWS Atlanta. It took a little time for her to open up, but throughout the months she spent at the shelter, she became fond of many staff members. Meeting new people was sometimes a challenge for her, but our team advocated for her in adoption appointments, hoping that potential adopters would see just how wonderful she was once she was comfortable.
Thankfully, after a year at the shelter, someone was willing to give her a chance. She headed to a foster home, and we hoped her caretakers would fall in love with her just as we did. About a week later, his foster family knew she was special. The officially adopted her in February of 2024, and things have only gotten better for Lydia! In an update her mom sent last year, she noted, "Lydia didn't smile for 6 months. Now she smiles a lot." No one deserves a big smile like sweet Lydia.
Lydia loves playing ball with her family. Her mom says, "Whenever she gets new toys from Amazon, she can smell the rubber through the bag and zones in on it. She has destroyed all but one of them. She sure loves to play ball." She gets lots of baths to help with her allergies, but she loves her spa days. She'll walk herself right into the tub and wait for her pampering! Lydia also has two human brothers, and she's a wonderful companion to them.
"We think she's the best!"says her mom. "I'm glad someone left her at PAWS for us." We don't know what Lydia was up to before we met her, but she's definitely living her best life now.
