Birdie and Mike
Sweet little Mike was transferred to PAWS Atlanta from a county shelter due to overcrowding. He had puppy dog eyes from day one, but, when he arrived, he was terrified. It took him over a week to wag his tail, and he would still sometimes cower when we attempted to pet him. We don't know exactly what Mike endured before coming to the shelter, but, whatever it was, it couldn't have been good.
Gradually, Mike opened up. He was still a bit shy but began to enjoy walks and playtime. Soon, Mike was adopted! He had a long way to go with his socialization, though, and was returned. We hated to see him back in our care, knowing that his life had already been difficult enough, but we knew he would find a better fit. And he did! When Alexis came along, she opened her heart to this little guy and has been showering him with the love he deserves.
But wait, THERE'S MORE!
Alexis' roommate, Peyton, was also looking for a pup to adopt. A few months after Mike came home, Peyton adopted Birdie (previously Crybaby)! Birdie had also been adopted and returned to PAWS Atlanta, and Peyton knew she deserved another chance.
Now, Birdie and Mike are two peas in a pod! These two pups are loving their new life together. Who knows - maybe they've swapped stories and understand each other completely.
Peyton recently reached out to update us on Birdie and Mike. Here's what she had to say:
"Birdie loves to carry around her turtle stuffed animal and even sometimes takes it on her walks. We don't usually walk Birdie and Mike together because Mike gets excited and will jump and do flips trying to play with her! It's cute, but a little overwhelming on every walk. Plus, they get plenty of playtime together at home.
They have such a stereotypical sibling relationship. Mike is the annoying little brother to Birdie, but she loves him so much. She even lets him win sometimes when they wrestle. Birdie also knows that she's bigger than Mike and does her best not to overpower him. On the other hand, she's good about leaving the room when his puppy energy is becoming too much for her.
Both are super tolerant of us dressing them up and taking tons of pictures! I swear they pose when they realize we have our phones pointed at them. They were born to be models.
As it gets colder, we will have tons of pictures of them in their coats and sweaters! Make sure to follow them on Instagram to see all the cuteness."

We're so excited for this crew of four, and we can't wait to stay updated with all their adventures!
