Beowulf's Story

Our Epic Hero

Beowulf was left behind at PAWS Atlanta's gate in the spring of 2021. He was terrified and immediately suspicious of all humans. It's taken him a while to adjust, but he has found that there are some perks to his new life. He has a clean, secure, and comfy place to hang out as well as a constant source of food, treats, and toys. He's often spotted tucked away in a cubby hole or on a window ledge observing what is going on around him. He doesn't miss a thing and is the "watch cat" of his room in the Cat Cottage.

While Beowulf gets along well with other cats, it's taken him a lot of time to learn to trust people again. We're not sure what his life was like before coming to the shelter, but it doesn't seem like he had a chance to bond with his owners. He's suspicious of people and usually keeps his guard up. However, he has made an incredible amount of progress over the past year! While Beowulf used to never leave his safe little cubby while there were people in the room, he's now often out and about in the Cat Cottage, even when people are visiting. He's even grown fond of a few chin scratches from a select number of people. It might not seem like much, but we're elated to see him open himself up to love again.

Beowulf is currently in a foster home and continuing to make progress. He has his own private room where he feels safe, including a window bed, where he spends most of his time. He's grown fond of eating Churu cat treats out of his foster mom's hand, which is a big step for him. His new favorite nighttime routine is to meow for a little while to himself to let everyone know he's content. He does best in a quiet home with someone who is patient and will give him the time needed to blossom. We know he is absolutely worth it and will be a great companion for the lucky person who decides to take a chance on our shifty-eyed boy!
