Montreal's Story

Fourth Time's the Charm

Montreal was left behind by her previous owner at the gate of PAWS Atlanta. Right away, she was social and curious. As she settled into the Cat Cottage, she started to show us her sassy side. She wasn't a huge fan of other cats but was vocal and always asking for attention. We knew she was a unique girl who needed a one-of-a-kind home. (Around 80 percent of orange cats are male, so Montreal was special from the beginning.)

When she was adopted several months later, our team was so excited for her. However, we were disheartened when she was returned a few months later. This cycle of adoptions and returns continued for Montreal two more times! Each time she came back to the shelter, she was more on edge. We were worried that the longer she stayed at the shelter, the more difficult it would be for her to find the right home. Montreal finally landed in a foster home where she was able to decompress. And when a potential adopter reached out to meet Montreal, our team was cautiously hopeful. The last thing we wanted was for her to be disappointed again.

Thankfully, that's not what happened. Montreal's (now Clementine!) new family fell in love with her immediately. Now that she's settled into her new home, she's back to being her happy, affectionate self. Her new family is totally in love with her! Here's what they had to say about how she's doing:

Why did you decide to adopt Clementine?

We had a beloved cat and a dog in our home for many years. They both passed away within a few months of each other in 2023. We missed them terribly and realized after some time had passed that we were ready to welcome a new furry friend into our home. We both grew up with pets, and we want our two young kids to experience that joy and sense of responsibility as well.

How is Clementine doing now?

She's great! She was a little apprehensive at first, but after a few weeks of settling in and getting to know our routine, she has become part of the rhythm of our lives.

Do you have any other pets?

No other pets right now, and Clementine seems to like it that way! She is definitely the queen of the castle.

What kind of activities does Clementine enjoy?

She is very interactive and loves chasing toys on a string. She can jump SUPER high, so we give her opportunities to climb on her cat tree and on some shelves on our porch. She’s very smart and quickly solves food puzzle toys. She loves watching birds and animals from our screened in porch, and she even caught a mouse that infiltrated our home! She loves to run and scamper around the house, and she gets the zoomies now and then, which is so funny to watch. She also loves snuggling and burrowing in blankets.

How does Clementine show her love?

She is very affectionate and will often head butt us and purr. She is super snuggly and we love when she joins us for family movie nights on the sofa. She’s very forgiving to our one-year-old who is completely obsessed with her, and she is patient and loving to our almost four-year-old, who is learning to be gentle and empathetic to all living creatures.

What do you love most about Clementine?

She’s the perfect package of playful, funny, sweet, and silly. We joke that she has a sleep charm she uses on us: if you're sitting or reclining, she crawls onto your lap and melts into you with her rumbling purr. It will knock you out faster than a hefty Thanksgiving dinner! I love that soporific effect—she makes our home feel very cozy and “hygge”. We love her so much and are grateful to the PAWS team for placing her with us!
