Slow and Steady

Janet Weiss' Purrfect Match

If you've followed the stories of PAWS Atlanta pets over the past few years, it's likely that you remember Janet Weiss. Janet is a beautiful diluted calico, with a princess personality to match. She can be a bit testy when she's adjusting to new people and spaces, which was an additional obstacle when it came to finding the right home for her. She was adopted on three separate occasions but returned each time. Janet needed someone who understood her boundaries and was willing to approach her with patience.

In October of this year, she found just that. Her new mom, Claire, fully understands that Janet needs her own space on her own terms. She's given Janet her very own multi-story kennel, complete with everything she needs. Of course, Janet is welcome to explore the house when she wants to, but she's still a bit skeptical.

A few weeks ago, Claire reached out to let us know that Janet had explored outside of her habitat space for the very first time! After a couple minutes, she went right back in, but expanding her territory was a huge step. Claire also reports that Janet has been coming out of her Amazon box (her favorite hiding spot) quite often these days. Her favorite activities are curling up on her heating pad to nap and watching the birds and squirrels outside the window.

Claire suspects it will still be some time before Janet is comfortable sharing space with them.  Janet and her dog sibling are skeptical of each other, but little by little they are both becoming more tolerant.  Claire also has a young foster kitten who shares the habitat with Janet (Janet loves other cats!). Often, the kitten zooms around the house, in and out of the habitat, showing Janet how much fun she could have if she gave them a chance.

Janet's progress, in Claire's words, is slow but encouraging! Our team is so glad that Janet finally found a home where she is understood, and where she can finally thrive.
