Through the generous support of the Banfield Foundation, last year PAWS Atlanta was able to purchase much-needed veterinary medical equipment to support the animals in our care. It included medical pumps to help us administer fluids during surgery, a blood chemistry analyzer to assist us with in-house blood analysis, and an anesthesia monitor that helps us monitor blood pressure and get us an ECG report right away on our patients under anesthesia—particularly important for our older patients and those cats who suffer from kidney or heart disease. In just a year this generous grant has made a real, tangible difference for us and allowed us to help many animals!
Our new equipment, for example, recently assisted a Yorkie in our care when it had a major reaction right after getting vaccines. The dog simply collapsed, and we were able to use our new fluid pump to help maintain its IV fluid. We were able to keep the dog stable until we could transfer it to the emergency vet where they could provide 24-hour monitoring.
Our gift from the Banfield Foundation also included an air animal warmer to keep our patients comfortable after surgery. It has greatly improved our post-anesthesia care. We can now regulate post-op animals’ warmth much better, which helps them recover faster which is better for the pets. This has been particularly important for senior animals.
These are real, day-to-day differences in the lives of animals that need us when they are most vulnerable. Thank you to the Banfield Foundation for this wonderful gift!
