As GAgives on #GivingTuesday approaches, we're celebrating some of the "unwanted" pets whose lives have been transformed this year.
Like Biscuit (cute tan pup) and Tea (adorable black kitty), whose mothers were left behind at our gate one night. Against the odds, they grew strong and are thriving in the care of people who adore them. Their mom, Renae, recently told us how they found each other.
"Tyler and I moved to Atlanta in 2018 and brought with us our menagerie of four animals: Buddy, our 19-year-old cat, Malta, our 12-year-old English Mastiff, Sprocket, an exuberant 4-year-old Staffy mix, and Oyster, an ancient Bichon. Sadly, within 2 years Buddy and Malta had both left us behind. Our house was too quiet.
And then Tyler saw her…
The pictures of Biscuit started to populate my DMs from him on Instagram. Every time she was posted, he’d send it to me.
Her mother Ruth had been abandoned, thin and sick, at the gate of PAWS.
She was so thin that no one even knew she was pregnant until a full examination was completed. Within days, she gave birth to a full litter, but due to her condition, only one puppy survived and had to be bottle-fed because her mom wasn’t well enough to care for her. I knew it was meant to be.
Then, Harriet mentioned her bottle mate—a kitten named PG Tips. As in tea. The minute she said it I knew PG was ours, too.
We were still grieving the loss of our beloved cat and a dog, and here’s the set of "Tea and Biscuit"?
Tea had almost the same story. Mother left at the shelter and PG had shown some difficulty in thriving so she was tiny. She had to stay in the rescue’s care until she could put on some weight. Now that she's here, everything feels complete.
Biscuit and PG were indeed left behind. But…so were we. And in the end, we all found each other. There are no empty spaces in our house anymore. And no empty spaces in our hearts. We are grateful to whoever delivered them to to the gate, even as we wonder how they could have ever left these treasures behind. But we are happy to have been able to add them to our home which is made much warmer for having them!"
Stand with rescue pets this GAgives on #GivingTuesday and help them find their way home.
