Vern's Story
Vern arrived at PAWS Atlanta in 2018, when his previous owner could no longer care for him. With his sweet and affectionate nature, it was no surprise when he got adopted the very next day! Our team was happy that his stint at the shelter was so brief and wished him happy tails. However, six years later, Vern returned to PAWS when his adopter's family situation changed. We hated to see him back at the shelter, but we were even more determined to find him a home!
After about a month, Vern headed to a foster home. He was a bit stressed in the shelter, which made sense considering he'd spent most of his life comfortable in a home. After arriving in his foster home, he took to his caregivers immediately and loved having a break from the shelter. However, he wasn't in his foster home long because someone wanted to meet him! Upon seeing pictures of Vern on his foster’s Instagram, they immediately knew they had to meet him. And they were right! Vern was adopted.
His mom says, "It felt like love at first sight! When we brought him home for the first time, he was still recovering from surgery. Even so, within 24 hours of bringing him home, he was already sitting on my lap.
Vern is the most cuddly and affectionate cat. He excitedly runs to the door to greet all of our friends and family when they come to visit. We joke that he has never met a stranger. He has even convinced multiple maintenance and repair workers to pick him up when they came by to do work.
Vern is such a sweet companion. He will sit on my lap for hours while I'm working, reading, or playing video games. When he isn’t cuddling, he loves playing with wand toys, catnip toys, and mouse toys. He also enjoys lounging on the cat tree and watching the chipmunks run around our patio. We are so happy Vern is part of our family and are grateful for the joy, silliness and love he shares with us every day."
While we wish Vern never had to come to the shelter, it's clear he's now exactly where he belongs: home.
