The Comeback Kid

Gus' Story

Gus (previously Edgar Allen Paw) arrived at PAWS Atlanta in 2021, when he was transferred from another nearby county shelter. Despite all the upheaval he was experiencing, he was all smiles. His happy-go-lucky attitude made him a favorite in no time. Our team took him to Puppy Therapy and adoption events, assuming he would be scooped up quickly. However, month after month, Gus continued waiting for a family.

Then, one day, our team noticed he was having trouble walking. His back legs appeared weak, and we feared he had a tumor that meant the worst. Our team prepared to have to say goodbye to Gus, but, suddenly, several days later, Gus made a miraculous recovery. Before long, he was running and jumping again! We still can't quite explain his quick turnaround, but we're so glad it happened, because the best was truly yet to come.

After his incredible comeback, we were more determined than ever to find a home for Gus. He was adopted not long after he was cleared with a clean bill of health, but he was returned to the shelter just a few days later. Much to our dismay this happened a second time a couple of months later! We were heartbroken that Gus kept coming back to us. However, in October of last year, everything changed.

Gus' new family came to meet him for the first time, and they fell in love right away! Now, he has a dog brother and two parents who absolutely adore him. His parents recently told us, "He’s been SUCH a great pup and addition to our family. He’s the funniest and cutest dog. We love him so much!" This is the type of love that Gus needed all along, and we can't think of any pup who deserves it more.
