Shelter Success Training Program

PAWS Atlanta's Shelter Success Training Program, led by our trainer MarLee Thompson CBCC-KA, CPDT-KA, SDC, strives to teach our long-term dogs new skills, improve their behaviors, and increase their visibility to potential adopters. We want to share with you the training plans, personalities, and progress of the dogs currently in the program. You can take a look at them below. All of these dogs are currently adoptable, so fill out an application if you'd like to meet them!

Big Boy
Big Boy is active and athletic. He loves toys: carrying them in his mouth, playing tug-o-war, and chasing tennis balls. After a big day of playing, he likes to snuggle up in his dog bed or anywhere cozy (like maybe your couch!). He seeks out belly rubs and head pets to show his affection. Sometimes, he can get overwhelmed when there’s too much happening around him, so Big Boy would be happiest in an adult-only, single-dog home. With his big love, though, he’s really all you need.

Big Sky
Big Sky has been at PAWS Atlanta for most of his life, which has caused him to be a bit behind on his social skills. He's doing well in training and is learning a more laid-back approach to greeting new people. Smart and confident, Big Sky is active and incredibly fit. He would love to have someone to take him on runs, hikes, and adventures. We recommend that Big Sky find a loving home without kids and with parents who would be willing to help him continue to learn his good boy skills.

Charlotte
Charlotte is a strong, independent lady, and she likes to do her own thing. Even though she's no longer a puppy, she still has plenty of puppy-like energy. She spent most of her early life in the shelter, so she’s still working on polishing up her skills. She is incredibly smart, though, which makes learning new things easy for her. With consistency (and treats), she can learn anything.

Chobi
Chobi is a sweetheart and a free spirit. He has plenty of energy and needs a family who can provide him with lots of enrichment. He does well with kids and other pets. He's a great walking buddy and enjoys being outside. Chobi enjoys challenges like learning new tricks and playing games. He's smart and enjoys training as a way to focus his energy. He still has a lot to learn, but he’s a quick study.

Flip Flop
Flip Flop is quite handsome and loves to play. He particularly likes tug-o-war and would make a wonderful walking or jogging partner. He is very smart, which makes training easy but also makes him wary of new people and situations. He would do best as an only dog in an adult-only home. He thrives with routine and structure and needs a home where he can rely on consistency and positive reinforcement. Once he knows he can trust you, he’s all smiles.

Ma'am
Ma'am soaks up the world like a sponge. She's learning all kinds of things - how to meet new people, how to walk on leash calmly, plus an excellent sit-stay. With her friends at the shelter, she's friendly and playful. Ma'am would be a good fit for someone willing to put in the time to help her thrive and learn. She's smart and she's loyal. With a little bit of praise and some consistent coaching, she’ll be a superstar. Ma'am would like an adult home with someone who will continue to work with her to help her develop and grow. The payoff is that you will be able to spend your life with a beautiful, curious, faithful friend.

Mr. Bean
Mr. Bean is a ride-or-die friend. He's always checking in with his people, making sure they're okay, and likes to keep you in eyesight. He wants to make sure everyone is having just as much fun as he is. He has tested well with several other pups in our program and would prefer a home without young kids. He's very food motivated, so he's a quick learner. Mr. Bean has already mastered a number of commands. He's done well in a foster home but would love to find a loving adoptive home.

Piggy
Piggy is incredibly smart and she knows it. She can master every trick with ease and needs regular enrichment to stay focused and happy. Because she loves to keep her mind busy, she's thriving learning from our trainer. She's down for adventure and loves to explore new places. She hops and snorts to let you know she's happy and loves to give high fives. She has great manners on leash and is house trained. Piggy needs a home as an only pet without small children.

Zoomer
Zoomer is full speed ahead all the time, as his name implies. He's able to master new skills quickly and is curious about the world around him. Zoomer LOVES car rides and walks. He's working on walking politely on leash without pulling and greeting others more calmly. He'd do best with an active adopter who is looking for an adventure buddy. He would love to hike, camp, and go on road trips. He'd love to feel like he belongs.
