Lily's Gold Award Project

Girl Scout Improves PAWS Atlanta Lobby

Lily Martinson is a high school junior and a Girl Scout. She’s been working on her Gold Award project with PAWS since late November 2022, and we’re excited to show you everything she has accomplished!

She toured the shelter and our facility prior to getting started, and we discussed project options and how it would benefit our animals. After renovating our lobby in early 2023, Lily decided that adding even more to our lobby would really transform the space. We had a need for a comfortable seating area for guests, increased storage for supplies, a designated area for donations, and a way to display more information in the lobby.

Lily researched storage solutions and brainstormed ways to get information in front of the public while in the lobby. After taking some measurements of the space, she met with our staff to collaborate on best solutions. In June, she completed her project and fully installed everything in our lobby!

Her solutions created a long-lasting impact. The bench features a comfortable, water and stain resistant cushion that is big enough to accommodate several guests at once. The seat of the bench lifts to provide storage space underneath, which houses the bags of dog and cat food that we send home with adopters. The attached donation box is large enough to collect donated supplies and package deliveries, which keeps items secure and maintains the tidiness of the space. The brand-new TV will allow us to display information to guests and give them a visual to look at in the lobby (this is a PAWS Atlanta first!). We’re able to rotate through information on all of our programs, services, events, animals, and more.

The staff is so excited about Lily’s project, and it’s already made a big impact at the shelter. This is the first place that guests go when they arrive at the shelter, and it helps us put our best paw forward. Thank you, Lily!
