Lizzy B's Story
While very few adoption stories are simple, Lizzy B's story is especially full of ups and downs. Over the course of eight years, Lizzy has been searching for a forever home. Earlier this year, she finally found one.
Lizzy first came to PAWS Atlanta in 2018 and was adopted about six months later. We thought this would be the end of Lizzy's PAWS Atlanta story, but that wasn't the case.
In 2023, after about four years in a home, Lizzy's adopters had a change in housing situation and had to bring her back to the shelter. Lizzy didn't react well to being back at PAWS, and she was especially upset by the other cats in the Cat Cottage. After so many years in her own space, she was understandably overwhelmed by having so many roommates. It quickly became a priority for our team to find her a foster home where she could be more relaxed.
At the beginning of 2024, Lizzy found a wonderful foster home. She was much more comfortable there, and, with the patience and love of her foster, she finally began to decompress. She was calm and affectionate, a side of her she hadn't been willing to show us at the shelter. This is a big reason fosters are so crucial! Some animals will never be relaxed enough at the shelter for their full personalities to bloom. However, in a foster home, we get a much better picture of what a pet will be like in their adoptive home. This was definitely the case with Lizzy!
Despite finally finding a temporary spot to be herself, Lizzy continued to wait years for a home. Though we told adopters about her whenever possible, there were hardly any applications submitted for her. In January of this year, though, everything changed for Lizzy. Someone was interested in meeting her! Her foster set up a meeting with the potential adopter so Lizzy didn't have to make the trip back to the shelter.
It turns out, she won't be making another trip back to the shelter at all. The meeting was a success! Lizzy B has now been in her new home for almost two months and is settling in well. Her new dad says, "She's acclimated really well. Faster than I'd thought." She loves lying in the sun and has plenty of plush beds to relax in. We're so glad Lizzy has finally found the home she deserves. We never give up hope that our long-time animals will find the right home. Some just need an extra special person to come along.
