From Downward Dog to Feeding Dogs
Each week, Tricia Brenn and her friends gather to practice yoga together. This grassroots group of women wanted to incorporate more yoga into their routine, but they decided to do even more. Instead of class entry fee, Tricia and the other members of the group decided to do something amazing. They donate the proceeds of each class to PAWS Atlanta, and they've already helped dozens of animals with their generosity.
Recently, we chatted with Tricia to learn even more about their incredible group.
How did you first get involved with PAWS Atlanta?
We all love animals and have a soft spot for rescue animals, dogs in particular. One of our yogis, Claire, adopted a dog named Toby from PAWS Atlanta, and we all want to ensure that other families can find their perfect rescue buddy too. We love knowing that our weekly yoga class can provide critical needs for supporting and sustaining animals until adoption.
Tell us about your fundraising efforts.
It started with a group of eight women wanting to do more yoga. One of the women, Erin, has a spacious home gym and I'm a certified yoga instructor. I eagerly agreed to lead our weekly yoga class with the request that the "entry fee" would be a donation to PAWS Atlanta. So, with the generous donation of a home gym and weekly yoga instruction, our tiny yoga group has raised enough money to feed over 60 dogs for a year. In addition to supporting PAWS Atlanta, we've deepened our friendships and developed strong bonds. We celebrate each other's successes, and we are there with a listening ear when life gets hard.
Why did you choose PAWS Atlanta as the recipient of your generosity?
We chose PAWS Atlanta for their reputation as a caring, no-kill animal shelter in our area.
Anything else you want to share?
We all believe that when you want something badly enough, you find a way to make it a reality, which is what we've been able to do. This yoga group is healthy and strong with giving hearts for our four-legged friends.
