To the Moon and Back

Moon and Anamika's Story

Moon and Anamika (previously Sophia and Chloe) came to PAWS Atlanta as part of an abandoned litter. Our team brought them in, gave them baths and a good meal, and sent them into a comfortable foster home. Despite their uncertain beginnings, these two kitties are now happy, healthy one-year-old girls. Their mom recently shared their adoption story with us, and we couldn't wait to share it with you!

Their mom writes: "About a year and a half ago, I saw a picture of 'Sophia' on the PAWS Atlanta's Instagram page on a Sunday night. It was love at first sight. Her disheveled kitten energy melted my heart.

On the drive over the next day, the song 'Moon River' by Frank Ocean came on from my playlist and I knew then her name was Moon. With only 30 minutes left before closing time, I visited the Cat Cottage. When I arrived, Moon was fast asleep perched on a hammock. I didn't want to disturb her, but another kitten who was awake and cuddling with Moon begged for my attention. Chloe, now Anamika, a black and white tuxedo kitten, stole my heart with her endless curiosity and playfulness. Moon and Anamika were clearly bonded. I FaceTimed my partner to show them the kittens, and they also fell in love with both. However, I had come there to adopt one cat. Two kittens and a senior chihuahua seemed out of the question for our small family. A kind volunteer in the kitten cottage was the reassuring voice in my decision to get both kittens.

Little did I know that within a week my beloved senior chihuahua named Young Link would pass away. As he crossed the rainbow bridge, I didn’t know how much the kittens would bring me solace and joy. In a way, I was in denial about Link’s health decline. But I was right to follow my gut and adopt the kittens at the time that I did. They provided a routine and constancy when we were grieving. Link even met Moon and shared his water bowl with her. He was normally ornery but found patience for the tiny baby. It really felt like he waited to cross the rainbow bridge until the kittens came into my life.

Nowadays, it’s me, my partner, the cats, and our rescue puppy named Pisces. Moon gives her puppy brother all the sass. Anamika still has an endless appetite for play, and she and Pisces are always tumbling throughout the house. Moon and Anamika sleep, play, and do all the sisterly cat things side by side. I couldn’t have asked for a better family. Truly, thank you to PAWS Atlanta for bringing these animals into our lives.
