Raven's Story
Raven arrived at PAWS Atlanta in April of 2025 because her previous owner was experiencing financial hardship. While it's difficult to see many of our animals come to the shelter, it's particularly heartbreaking when owners have to give up their beloved pets for reasons outside of their control, such as a medical condition or financial issues. We strive to do everything we can to help animals stay in homes, such as our Pet Food Bank, but sometimes it's just not possible. In those cases, we work hard to find animals like Raven a new home where they can feel equally loved.
Thankfully, Raven settled into shelter life easily. She was sweet and gentle, happy to meet everyone who crossed her path. Our team thought Raven would be adopted right away, but as a few months passed we grew concerned that she might spend longer in the shelter than we initially thought. We took her to event after event, hoping for the perfect match. Raven met people at Puppy Therapy and adoption events, but still she waited in the shelter.
Five months after coming to PAWS Atlanta, Raven finally had a shot at a new loving home! A previous foster parent reached out to our Foster Coordinator about adopting a dog. She had temporarily fostered another PAWS pup, Pudding (who has since been adopted!), and this time she was interested in finding a dog of her own. However, she had a special consideration. She wanted to find a dog who could be trained as a therapy dog for a senior center. She also needed a pup who could learn to get along with her cat. Thankfully, our Foster Coordinator knew the perfect dog!
Raven prepped for her meeting with her potential adopter, ready to show off her best tail wags and tricks. It didn't take much, though, and after simply reading her bio, her potential new mom was more than ready to meet her. Their meeting was even better than imagined, and Raven went home that day! She's been settling in to her new home for about two months now, and her new mom reached out to let us know that Raven is thriving. She writes, "..thank you for suggesting this wonderful dog. We adore her! She is the perfect fit as a therapy dog and starts training this week. She has settled in beautifully and is bringing joy to all she meets." Once in need of extra love and care, Raven is now providing the same for the residents of a senior home facility. There's no doubt that Raven is now exactly where she belongs.
